the meeting point

This used to be a watchman and farming workers house when this area was just filled with trees and crops but know that the place has been sacrificed to villas it is a spot where obviously teens spend time together. The names on the window glasses and the light globe are a testimony of whom frequented the place.

My preferred tree

This is not the first post having this tree in a principal or secondary role. Let me explain the reason. In the early 90s this very place was just in the sea, than the council filled new land to allow a 6 lane road to draw traffic from the center and a large promenade for walkers and bikers to enjoy the shoreline in safety. Obviously the few trees there are not very old and I do not know why this one is planted there: only a poor meter or so of soil behind, block of granite and marble (yes we use marble to fill the land) to surround its feet and salty water just a meter beyond. The tree struggle to gain some height but stay far behind his cousins grown on high ground. That's life: one can only do whith the cards we get when the game begin, no mean to complain!

Ephesus, Mother Mary's last home

South of Izmir lays Ephesus, one of the leading cities of the pre-Christian and early Christian world. Ephesus homed one of the 7 wonders of the world, the temple of Artemis and became an early prominent Christian community under the lead of Saint-John. Villagers in the Mountains surrounding Ephesus used to commemorate Mother Mary remembrance in her last known home. The small chapel is a restoration of a sixth century church which oldest remains are dated back to the 1^st century.

The place is some kilometres in the hills surrounding Ephesus and offers a beautiful sight on the green valley below. A variety of trees present an appeasing freshness to the visitors who, following the tradition, submit their wishes in small paper sheets or hankies. Some desperate cries while other just asking for health, peace or a better life; thousands of wishes create an immaculate patchwork to the visitors’ eyes and participate to the strangeness of the place‘s atmosphere.

Izmir Library

Izmir was once built of 2 storey buildings. Some banks, rich businessmen stone houses or administrations rose over the small Aegean's houses and the firemen watch tower had a sight of the entire city. The watch tower today only stood in the shadow of neighbours’ tower and watch at the hundreds of thousands of book kept in the converted fire-brigade buildings.
