South of Izmir lays Ephesus, one of the leading cities of the pre-Christian and early Christian world. Ephesus homed one of the 7 wonders of the world, the temple of Artemis and became an early prominent Christian community under the lead of Saint-John. Villagers in the Mountains surrounding Ephesus used to commemorate Mother Mary remembrance in her last known home. The small chapel is a restoration of a sixth century church which oldest remains are dated back to the 1st century.
The place is some kilometres in the hills surrounding Ephesus and offers a beautiful sight on the green valley below. A variety of trees present an appeasing freshness to the visitors who, following the tradition, submit their wishes in small paper sheets or hankies. Some desperate cries while other just asking for health, peace or a better life; thousands of wishes create an immaculate patchwork to the visitors’ eyes and participate to the strangeness of the place‘s atmosphere.
